My name is Dr. Scot Hawkins, and I am a piano teacher in Silver Spring, MD. My degree in piano is from The Catholic University of America. My studio is located at the corner of Georgia Avenue and Spring Street. I am Metro accessible, a five minute walk from the Silver Spring Metro Station on the Red Line.

I believe we can all make music at the piano, regardless of our age or experience level. You don’t have to play Beethoven or Chopin to enjoy the piano (although if you want to play that kind of music, that’s OK, too).  Whatever you want to play, my goal for all of my students is to make music in a fun, healthy, and meaningful way.

In my studio, I have students who are coming to the piano for the first time, and students who are continuing their piano studies. They are playing a variety of music -- classical, standards, church music, and improvisation.

Improvising -- making music on the spot without using a score -- is a specialty of mine. It is a skill that can be taught, and a wonderful way to create sounds at the piano that are uniquely yours.
